VISION FOR THE COMMISSION
To help build community in the Parish and foster a sense of belonging.

ROLE OF A MEMBER OF THE COMMISSION
The role of a member of the Parish Life Commission is to embrace, articulate and support the vision of the Commission; and to have a thorough understanding of the synergies of the Ministries which make up the Parish Life Commission.

EXPECTATIONS OF THE COMMISSION
By consistent and thorough communication with the Parish Pastoral Council and Parish Life Ministries, we will:
Support parish activities and events as celebrations of community.
Encourage our Ministries and challenge ourselves to be imaginative and bring forward new ideas.
Emphasize that the purpose of all of our activities is to make the members of the Parish feel not only welcome, but part         of the community.

CFM (Christian Family Movement):
Our Mission of CFM is...
To promote Christ-centered marriage and family life;
To help individuals and their families to live the faith in daily life;
To improve society through actions of love, service, education and example.

Christian Family Movement is a national network of parish/neighborhood small groups of families. Parents meet regularly
in one another's homes. Through the dynamics of small group interaction, Christian values are reinforced and families
are encouraged to reach out in action to others.

CFM meets monthly to discuss church, family, community, the workplace and the home.  CFM also has social activities including summer picnic, fall hayride and camping for the whole family.  For more information on CFM contact Tim & Sue Perek @ 847-577-4666   www.cfm.org
Strong Christian values...Making a difference-one family at a time

Social Activities Ministry:
The purpose of the Social Activities Ministry is to provide social opportunties to enhance the feeling of welcome in our community at St. Edna's .  We do
this by our picnic in the summer, the pancake breakfast with Santa in Dec. plus various receptions during the year.  Meetings are not scheduled but
called as needed.  We need new members and new ideas; it's a lot of fun and very rewarding.

Couples/Family Retreats:
Candlelight dinner for couples; reflection on gifts of Marriage & prayer (to support married couples).

Elizabeth Ministry:
Elizabeth Ministry is a ministry of women reaching out to women relating to the child-bearing issues of pregnancy, adoption, infertility and infant loss.  Elizabeth Ministers provide support to women through visits, calls, letters and prayers.  Ministers are matched with women who have like experiences.  Elizabeth Ministry is not only for those that are having difficulties, it can be a prayerful support for those who don't have family in the area while going through a special time in their lives.  Where appropriate, the parish provides a gift bag filled with spiritual and hand-made items.  Elizabeth Ministry has expanded to other ways of helping women by:  sponsoring an infertility support group, providing a Baptism Bundle at Baptism Preparation classes, starting the Rosebud Program as a visible sign for all of the parish to be aware of those who need prayers for child-bearing situations, hosting prayer services for those that have lost a child, and sponsoring a Grandparent support group.  At St. Edna, Elizabeth Ministry has been active since 1998 and currently there are about 20 ministers.  Call 847-398-3362

Bowlers WANTED:
This is a handicap bowling league for couples.  We bowl every other Sunday starting at 6:00 PM until approximately 8:30 at Arlington Lanes (Kennicott
and Dundee). Our season goes from September to May. This is a fun league, really not for "pro bowlers".  All couples are welcome to join, also every
year new teams are formed so that this is a good way to get to know your fellow parishoners.

Gift of Love:
Every year our parish family adopts families from our Sharing Parish, Saint James in Chicago and families in our area who are economically challenged.  This is a wonderful outreach called Gift of Love. Call Diane Lolli at 847-389-3362

Women of Saint Edna:
Women of St. Edna is a group of women from various walks of life -- young and old, married and single or divorced, women employed outside of the
home, homemakers, and retirees.  Membership is open to all women of the parish.  In addition to sharing our faith, we provide friendship, comfort,
kindness, and support  to members and others who may be in need.  Members meet in small groups (guilds) monthly in either the morning, afternoon
or evening. We have several general meetings a year that are open to all women, members and non-members alike. Call the office for more information.

Senior Ministry Advisory Committee:
This is the group which coordinates all the Senior Ministry activities.  Please contact the Parish Office for more information.

Sunday Nursery:
St. Edna’s Sunday Nursery, located in the Doherty Center, welcomes our youngest family members for playtime while their families
celebrate 9:30 a.m. Mass together.  Nursery attendants are available to supervise the children beginning at 9:15 a.m.  Please join us!

Liturgy of the Word for Children:
is a group of dedicated adults who meet monthly.  They prepare to present the Sunday Gospel readings to our children (ages 5-10 years old) in such a way that the children can understand it.  Presentations may include art, drama, puppets, music, etc. which help express the Scripture reading in ways the children can better understand it and grow in love for the Word of God.

Grandparents Prayer Group:
Gives grandparents the opportunity to pray for their children/grandchildren and their needs along with the needs of each other.  This group meets on Tuesday mornings at 8:30 am.

Sharing Coffee:
Gives parishoners an opportunity to visit with fellow parishoners while enjoying coffee and donuts.  Sharing Coffee is generally on the 3rd Sunday of every month after all Masses.

Young Adult Married Couples:
The Young Adult Married Couples ministry promotes activities for married couples in their 20s and 30s.  Through social, spiritual, serious and service
oriented activities, couples are able to strengthen their marriages and deepen their faith.

Mom's PLUS:
We are a friendly group of moms who get together once a week at St. Edna with our babies and preschoolers. Please note that all St. Edna moms are welcome at Moms Plus, whether you have small children or not.  The four most important parts of a woman's life are God, family, community and self.  Our goal at Moms Plus is to work to develop and unify all these parts, within ourselves and each other, for a more complete person.  We generally meet on Mondays from 9:30 - 11:00 am in the nursery in the Doherty Center at St. Edna. However, please visit our web site at www.momsplus.org for the most up-to-date information.  For additional details, please contact Tanya Prawica at 847-222-0430 or Ann Marie Thomas at 847-537-8077.  We hope you'll join us soon!

Ministry of Praise:
No meetings.  You are asked to pray for the different intentions that are sent to you each month.

Welcoming Ministry:
Consists of volunteers who assist at monthly welcoming sessions for new parishoners.  We greet new members, share our experiences and assist in the registration procedure.  Volunteers assist for about one hour at 2-4 meetings per year.

Visits to Saint James "Our Sharing Parish" in Chicago:
Over the years both parishes have grown in friendship with one another, motivated by Christian values of kindness, gratitude and mutual respect.  Experience the choir and the reception that follows Mass in one of the oldest and lovliest churches in the Archdiocese of Chicago.  Watch the Bulletin for scheduled trips to Saint James.
